Studio
Latent matter, speculating on vibrant ways of being
ZEITGUISED has been an experimental art and engineering studio, materializing virtual forms in physical space, since 2001.
Screens as windows, yes. But ZEITGUISED uses light as walls, and the material is the message. A colour moving a room, a dialog between two colors becoming tactile. Light changing the narrative of an architecture.
It was one of the first studios to bring abstraction into digital photorealism, and belongs to the last generation that built 3D virtual space by hand, before it could be generated. Henrik Mauler (b. 1974), an engineer by degree and an artist by consequence, has been building generative systems since 1986.
Recent work turned the Jenoptik tower in Jena into a prism, gave Denver's replica of St Mark's Campanile a clock of Venetian glass, turned a Riyadh metro passage into a forest that answers to passers-by, and brings porcelain to the Museo Diocesano in Genoa.
Too real to be virtual. Too virtual to be real.
